The authorities of the Canton Grisons draw a positive conclusion of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. The safety and security of the populace and guests was guaranteed at all times during the 55th annual meeting.

Isolated actions by various groups did not impact overall security, but posed an additional challenge to the security forces. A number of unauthorized actions were carried out and some governmental restrictions were violated. Based on these actions, a total of 49 formal sent-aways and 69 citations were issued.

According to Marcus Caduff, president of the government of the Canton Grisons and head of the WEF Committee for the Government of the Canton Grisons: “Freedom to express one’s opinion and assembly is a fundamental pillar of any democracy and also applies to the WEF. However, violating orders or valid rules must have consequences”. The police forces acted with restraint and appropriate to the relative situations.

Thanks to all partners

Mr. Caduff and Mr. Peyer, members of the Cantonal government, were able to see firsthand the professionalism of the security forces as part of their attendance at this year’s WEF. All security measures were proven and cooperation between the various services was smooth and uneventful. According to Peter Peyer, head of the Department of Justice, Safety and Health: “Credit goes to all members of the police and military as well as to the leadership of the Cantonal Police of the Canton Grisons for their high level of professionalism. The annual meeting in Davos is possible only with the support of numerous partners and the understanding of the populace at large.”

All cantons of Switzerland, the principality of Liechtenstein as well as some of the larger Swiss cities participated in an intercantonal police operation to maintain security and protect people and property. This year, the army has once again supported the civilian authorities of the Canton Grisons by carrying out the security tasks surrounding the annual meeting of the WEF.

Numerous heads of state and government representatives as well as a large number of personalities from the business, science communities and politics traveled once again to Davos. In total, 108 internationally protected persons requiring security measures attended the annual meeting of the WEF.
